For Maths Teachers
Including "real-life" maths in teaching materials is often suggested and
promoted, but in my experience much of what's included is heavily and
obviously contrived and in many cases feels a little desperate and even less
"real" than the abstracted concepts that we're teaching.
The point of this site is to collect together real real-life examples: actual maths happening out there in the world. It doesn't match up exactly with what anyone's syllabus says, but I feel that's an important thing to demonstrate as well: we're not Teaching Maths, we're helping people to collect some of the building blocks of a tool that's wonderfully useful in understanding how the world works. Putting those blocks together is the key to actually using it, and here lie a small (and hopefully growing) number of examples of people doing exactly that.

Maths, actually, is all around.
For Teachers of Other Subjects
Do you have examples of the usage of mathematics in your subject, and in
work and recreation related to it? I'd love to hear your examples! This
could be an opportunity to showcase your subject to maths fans and to give
fellow teachers of your subject and others a leg-up when it comes to
bringing out the maths in their teaching and providing a cross-curricular,
real-world experience for their students.
For Maths Fans Who Aren't Teachers
Here's an opportunity to present the maths you are interested in, either
professionally or recreationally, in front of students and teachers of
mathematics and other subjects. Let's flood the "real-life maths" market
with real real-life maths.
